DragonCon Founder Offered Cash for His Shares, New Company Takes Over

Kramer is being held without bond in Gwinnett.

DragonCon founder Edward Kramer has been bought out, and will no longer reap rewards from the annual convention in Atlanta.

In a statement, Kramer's former cohorts said that a new company Dragon Con/ACE, Inc. is replacing the old Dragon Con, Inc., and that Kramer was offered an undisclosed amount for his shares.

Kramer is facing child molestation charges, and is currently detained without bond at the Gwinnett County Detention Center. In 2000, he was first arrested on child molestation charges in Gwinnett County, but has had subsequent run-ins with the law, the AJC reported.

It's been since 2000 that Kramer has "had any role in managing or organizing the convention," officials said Monday. The new merger is effective July 8, 2013.

"Our members and others who attend Dragon*Con 2013 will experience the same fantastic convention they have come to expect from us," said Pat Henry, president and chief executive officer of Dragon Con."

The convention takes place Labor Day weekend in Atlanta, and attracts thousands of visitors.
