The Gwinnett Symphony Orchestra & Chorus will present ‘Shimmer,’ the final Masterworks concert of its 2013 season, in the Performing Arts Center at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth on Sunday, April 28. There will be a performance by the Gwinnett Symphony Youth Orchestra at 4:30 p.m., with the GSO&Chorus performance starting at 5:30 p.m., according to a news release. The Gwinnett Arena has announced that His Holiness the Dalai Lama will speak on October 8 at 9:30 a.m. According to their website, he will focus on the "fundamental human values that are the building blocks of an engaged and compassionate world." He will share his vision of secular ethics, according to the program description, its underlying principles, and the "urgent need to embrace such a system in today’s increasingly connected and globalized society." The Gwinnett Center in Duluth has partnered with AEG Facilities for support services. AEG, a Los Angeles-based international sports, entertainment and venue company, will assist Gwinnett Center with event programming, sponsorship and premium seating sales, purchasing, vendor venue services, advertising and event-day operations. The Hudgens Center for the Arts in Duluth has announced the four finalists for the prestigious $50,000 Hudgens Prize. The prize includes a solo exhibit for the artist at The Hudgens. The finalists are Christopher Chambers of Atlanta, Robbie Land of Atlanta, Derek Larson of Statesboro, and Pam Longobardi of Atlanta. Competition for the prize is open only to Georgia residents. The Gwinnett Center in Duluth is now accepting submissions for its first International Film Festival, July 27-28, 2013. The festival will celebrate the efforts of local, independent filmmakers, while providing awareness of filmmakers from across the country and internationally, according to a press release announcing the festival. Filmmakers of any age may submit entries. There will be three screening rooms, classes, and panel discussions presented throughout the event. Gwinnett Ballet Theatre opening three-week run of traditional ballet at the Gwinnett Performing Arts Center in Duluth.
Gwinnett Ballet Theatre will launch its 31st annual production of “The Nutcracker” this weekend at the Gwinnett Performing Arts Center in Duluth. GBT’s production, the second largest in the Atlanta metro area, offers 11 public performances and five outreach shows. The first public performance will be Saturday, Dec. 1, at 2:30 p.m. Shows will continue through Sunday, Dec. 16. Michael Chang will replace Jimmy Connors in the Champions Shootout during the Nov. 10 PowerShares Series tennis tournament at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth. Chang will now compete against John McEnroe, Jim Courier and Mats Wilander, according to an announcement Wednesday by InsideOut Sports + Entertainment. Connors was forced to withdraw due to a hip injury. The PowerShares Series will visit 12 cities starting Oct. 13 in Surprise, AZ, and concluding Nov. 30 in Anaheim, CA.
