It's Going to Be a Stormy Fourth of July

Check with Patch for weather-related postponements of Fourth of July activities.

Mother Nature isn't going to be very patriotic this Fourth of July. At least, that's according to weather prognosticators.

Check with Patch for updates on weather postponements of Fourth of July events.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for most of Central and North Georgia, including Gwinnett County, from 8 a.m. Wednesday July 3 until 8 a.m. Friday, July 5.

In between that time, thousands of Gwinnett County are expecting to attend a fireworks show, and some have planned to run in the big Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta.

Some organizers have already decided to postpone events. The City of Sugar Hill, for one, has rescheduled its Sparkle in the Park from Wednesday to Aug. 3. The Freedom Fest in Monroe, in Walton County, has moved to Saturday, July 6.

Conversely, the fireworks display on the Fourth of July at the Mall of Georgia will be held rain or shine.

Forecasters expect between 2 and 4 inches of rain during the period, with some heavier amounts in some areas.
