Dating Violence, Teen Suicide Lead Topics at Free Gwinnett Seminar

The seminar is entitled "What's Around the Corner?", and it is being hosted by the Lilburn Woman's Club and Mountain Park United Methodist Church.

A Gwinnett County women's group is hosting a seminar it hopes proves enlightening for parents -- and other adults -- regarding issues facing teens.

The seminar is entitled “What’s Around the Corner?”, and it is being hosted by the Lilburn Woman’s Club and Mountain Park United Methodist Church.

It takes place 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., Sept. 21 at the church, located at 1405 Rockbridge Road in Stone Mountain.

Issues that will be discussed include: sexual abuse, suicide, dating violence and more. Parents, grandparents, clergy, police, athletic leaders, teachers, guidance counselors or any adult who interacts with 11- to 17-year-olds are all invited.

Guests for the evening include:

  • Danny Porter, Gwinnett County district attorney, who will address the legal consequences of youth’s unlawful behavior on parents and their underage children
  • Tiffany Sawyer, director of prevention services at Georgia Center for Child Advocacy, who will cover youth sexual abuse
  • Katherine Raczynski, director of the "Safe and Welcoming Schools Project" at the University of Georgia, who will discuss effective responses to bullying
  • Samantha Marcedo, of Partnership Against Domestic Violence, who will talk about dating violence
  • Celia Brown, of Corizon Health, will identify suicidal tendencies
