Southern Museum Offers Free Admission on Feb. 22

The Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History in downtown Kennesaw, Ga., will be open for free during regular operating hours on Saturday, Feb. 22.

During the special free day, from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., visitors will have an opportunity to explore the Museum’s permanent exhibits and learn about the Great Locomotive Chase, one of the Civil War’s most thrilling episodes. Guests can also explore the one-of-a-kind full-scale replica of The Glover Machine Works, a locomotive factory in nearby Marietta that helped rebuild the South after the war.

“We are offering this special day to invite those who haven’t experienced the Museum to come and see us for free and also to thank our loyal patrons for their continued support,” said Kelly Briscoe, the Southern Museum’s events coordinator. “We are looking forward to sharing the Museum’s unique exhibits with guests whether it’s their first time or their 100th time visiting.”

The free admission day is the next special event on a crowded calendar of events at the Southern Museum in 2014. From 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. on March 1, the Southern Museum, in conjunction with Autism Speaks and the Lionel Collectors Club of America (LCCA), will host a special day for families affected by autism, and in July, the Museum’s popular Railroad Rendezvous returns for a second year.

Museum admission is normally $7.50 for adults, $6.50 for seniors, $5.50 for children ages 4-12 and free for children three and under as well as Museum members. The Museum is located at 2829 Cherokee Street in downtown Kennesaw (exit 273 on Interstate 75).
