Shannon Scott of Ohio State and Rion Brown of Miami are significant players on these No. 2 seeds.

  • Scott, from Alpharetta (Milton High), averages 4.8 points and 2.7 assists per game for the Buckeyes, who play Iona Friday in Dayton.
  • Brown, a 6-foot-6 junior from Hinesville (Liberty County High), averages 5.9 points per game for a Hurrincane team that many thought would secure a No. 1 seeding. Miami plays Pacific Friday in Austin, Texas.

Don't Overlook

  • Jordan Adams, a 6-5 freshman from Atlanta who played at Oak Hill Academy, is one reason UCLA could make a deep run. Adams averages 15.3 points per game — the highest scoring average among the Georgia players in the field. UCLA, a No. 5 seed, opens against Minnesota Friday in Austin.
  • Shaq Goodwin (7.8 points per game, 4.6 rebounds per game) and Damien Wilson (1.8 ppg) are on a Memphis team that's 30-4 and has been playing well. Both freshmen, Goodwin played at Southwest DeKalb, and Wilson, and Atlantan, played at Oak Hill. Memphis plays St. Mary's Thursday in Auburn Hills, Mich.

Other Top Players to Watch

  • Lorenzo Brown of Roswell (Centennial High), and Richard Howell of Marietta (Wheeler High) both average better than 12 points per game for North Carolina State, which plays Temple Friday in Dayton.
  • Carl Hall of Cochran (NW Florida State CC) averages 12.8 points and 7.2 rebounds for Wichita State, which plays Pittsburgh Thursday in Salt Lake City.
  • Bernard Thompson of Conyers (Rockdale County High) was the A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year with Florida Gulf Coast, a No. 15 seed which plays Georgetown Friday in Philadelphia. Thompson averages 14 points per game and set a conference record for steals in a season.
  • Cashmere Wright of Savannah averages 12.6 points for Cincinnati, which plays Creighton Friday in Philadelphia.
  • JJ Mann of Smyrna (Hargrave Military Academy) averages 10.5 points and 4.7 rebounds for Belmont, which plays Arizona Thursday in Salt Lake City.
