Gwinnett Teams Dominate in First Round of State Football Playoffs

Nine of 11 county teams win, including seven of eight in Class AAAAAA.

Gwinnett County teams won seven of its eight first-round games Friday night in the Georgia High School Association football playoffs, but it took some extra effort to do it.

Brookwood and Parkview both went to Cobb County and took overtime victories over highly regarded teams. And Mill Creek, the third seed from Region 7-AAAAAA, won on virtually the last play of the game.

Brookwood (7-4), the fourth seed from 8-AAAAAA, knocked off No. 1-ranked Lassiter 24-21 on Brandon Morrow’s field in OT. Lassiter (10-1) entered the game undefeated.

Parkview (8-3), a No. 3 seed, needed two overtimes to beat Walton 20-17. Walton (7-4) was a state finalist last year. Justis Rosser scored the game-winner on a 15-yard run on Parkview’s first play of the second OT.

For Mill Creek (8-3), Bryson King kicked the game-winning field goal with seven seconds left in a 41-39 win at Alpharetta. King had two field goals blocked in the game, including one returned for an Alpharetta touchdown. Jacorey Lewis scored all five of Mill Creek's TDs.

Also winning in the Class AAAAAA first round were North Gwinnett (49-19 over Johns Creek), Grayson (49-9 over Wheeler), Norcross (34-7 over Chattahoochee), and South Gwinnett (27-20 over Milton).

Those seven teams are joined by Buford (41-27 winner over Cedar Grove) in AAA, and Greater Atlanta Christian (35-6 over Model) in AA. Collins Hill lost to West Forsyth 66-41 in AAAAAA, and Wesleyan fell 42-10 to Calhoun in AA.

I disagree with a lot of your "gift choices"!!! The alike t-shirts are adorable,Read More especially in older couples, in my opinion, as obviously others cause they do it! My husband loves mugs and since we only run our dishwasher every couple days, he needs multiples (we also use for ice cream, soup and cracker snacks for grandchildren cause they can hold the handles easily!) white t-shirts are good for men to sleep in, or under dress shirts - a man always needs extra! Socks as well!! I agree a thoughtful, personalized gift is the best - but what is wrong with adding on some of these others as extras, or use because the man who has everything doesn't buy t-shirts, mugs or sock for himself!!!! Just my opinion, like the above is your opinion!! :-)
