Baseball Playoffs: Rains Delay Some of First-Round Series

Parkview plays Peachtree Ridge Wednesday in the second round of the Georgia High School Association baseball playoffs, but four first-round series involving Gwinnett teams have yet to be completed.

The recent rain has slowed down the state high school baseball playoffs, delaying several first-round series involving Gwinnett teams.

Four county schools were scheduled to play the final game of their first-round series Tuesday, May 7, weather permitting, of course.

The Grayson-Roswell, South Gwinnett-Walton and Brookwood-Milton series in Class AAAAAA, and the Greater Atlanta Christian-Pepperell series in Class AA were all tied at one game each with the deciding third game yet to be completed. The winners of those series will start play in the second round on Thursday, May 9.

Six other Gwinnett teams, including defending large-school champ Parkview, have advanced to the second round. The others are Peachtree Ridge, Mill Creek and Norcross in Class AAAAAA, Wesleyan in AA, and Providence Christian in Class A.

Parkview hosts Peachtree Ridge to start the second round on Wednesday, May 8. Parkview beat Etowah and Peachtree Ridge beat West Forsyth in the first round; both series went to three games.

Mill Creek held off Alpharetta in the first round and will play the Grayson-Roswell winner in the second round. Norcross swept Johns Creek and will next face the South Gwinnett-Walton winner.

Brookwood and Milton were tied 1-1 in their series, with both games ending in extra innings. The final game was scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday night. The winner plays Lambert, which swept North Gwinnett last week.

In Class AA, Wesleyan swept Coosa and will play at Jefferson in the second round, beginning Wednesday. The GAC-Pepperell winner plays the Union County-Bowdon winner in the second round.

In Class A, Providence Christian beat Savannah Christian in the first round and plays at George Walton, beginning Wednesday.
