Six Finalists Named for 2014 Gwinnett County Teacher of the Year

The finalists are educators in Auburn (Dacula), Peachtree Corners, Lilburn, Norcross, Snellville and Lawrenceville.

A special committee has chosen Gwinnett County's top 6 finalists for the 2014 Teacher of the Year.

They are:

  • Heather Watkins, a first-grade teacher at Mulberry Elementary (13 years in education)
  • Stacey Dunlap, a media specialist at Simpson Elementary (8 years in education)
  • Lissette McRea, a language arts teacher at Berkmar Middle (13 years in education)
  • Carol Williams, a math teacher at Summerour Middle (13 years in education)
  • Ashley Allgood, a Latin teacher at Brookwood High (8 years in education)
  • Hyunjin Son, an engineering teacher at Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology (8 years in education)
A selection committee comprised of Gwinnett County Public School educators narrowed the field from the 26 semifinalists chosen in September.

Now, they must chose among the six finalists for the top honor: Teacher of the Year.

That announcement will be made at a banquet on Nov. 7, at the Gwinnett Center, 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.

All 130 local school Teachers of the Year will be recognized during that time.
