Gwinnett Schools Score Above State Average in New Performance Ratings
The state Department of Education released the first results from the new Georgia College and Career Ready Performance Index on May 7. Among high schools, the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology scored the highest at 99.8.
Gwinnett County Public Schools scored above the state average in a new performance rating system that assesses whether schools are producing students ready for college.
The state Department of Education released the first results, which are based on 2011-2012 data, from the new College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) on May 7. It considers achievement, progress, and the achievement gap using a 100-point scale, and replaces Adequate Yearly Progress used in No Child Left Behind.
In Gwinnett County, the elementary score is 93.5, middle school is 94.3 percent and high school is 76.4 percent. That's compared to the state averages of: 83.4 for elementary schools, 81.4 for middle schools, and 72.6 for high schools. (See Chart B for surrounding school districts.)

Of Gwinnett County's high schools, scored the highest at 99.8, followed by Brookwood High with 91.8 (See Chart A for the scores of all Gwinnett County high schools.)
"Overall, our schools are doing well; however, this index provides additional information on areas in which we need to improve. More importantly, this index is a communication tool that will help our communities better understand how their schools are doing," said J. Alvin Wilbanks, GCPS chief executive officer and superintendent.

Each school receives a score out of 100 points, just like as students receive in their classes.
A school and district’s overall score is made up of three major areas: Achievement (70 possible points), Progress (15 points possible) and Achievement Gap (15 points possible).
In addition to the three major areas, schools may receive additional points based on the number of economically disadvantaged students, English-learning students and students with disabilities that meet expectations.
Schools and districts also receive extra points for exceeding CCRPI targets.
