Four Gwinnett Schools Named 2012 'Schools of Excellence'

Schools in Lilburn, Duluth, Auburn and Hoschton made the list.

State officials announced Tuesday that four Gwinnett County schools are '2012 Georgia Schools of Excellence' in student achievement.

A total of 28 schools across the state received the honor, which highlights the highest performance and greatest gains in the College and Career-Ready Performance Index.

Each noted school will get a $1,000 check from Georgia Natural Gas.

Gwinnett County Public Schools' winners are:

"These schools are the epitome of excellence," said State Superintendent John Barge. "It took us a while to name the 2012 Schools of Excellence, but we wanted to measure them based on our College and Career Ready Performance Index rather than the old measure.

"With our new, more rigorous accountability system, these schools really shine."
