Duluth High School Chamber Orchestra Wows 'Em in NYC

The 32-member orchestra won first place in the National Band and Orchestra Festival and performed at Lincoln Center.

The 32-member Duluth High School Chamber Orchestra impressed judges with their music and won first place in the National Band and Orchestra Festival at Lincoln Center in New York.

The competition involved college and high school ensembles from across the United States and Canada April 21, according to a news release issued by Gwinnett County Public Schools.

Judges unanimously selected the Duluth HS Chamber Orchestra to be the featured ensemble during the evening concert in Avery Fisher Hall, the home of the New York Philharmonic.

Duluth High music teachers Shawn Morton and Dr. Peter Lemonds direct the DHS Chamber Orchestra.

Lemonds was named 2013 Educator of the Year by the American String Teachers Association-Georgia Chapter earlier this year.
