7 Gwinnett Elementary Schools Rewarded for High Progress

Phoenix High School placed on the list of Graduation Rate Alert Schools.

Seven Gwinnett elementary schools were named Title I Reward Schools by the Georgia Department of Education on Tuesday as part of the new state accountability system.

Lovin Elementary in Lawrenceville, Knight Elementary in Lilburn and Harris Elementary in Duluth were among the five percent of Title I schools statewide that showed the greatest improvement in student performance over the past three years on statewide tests.

Benefield Elementary in Lawrenceville, Meadowcreek Elementary in Norcross, Partee Elementary in Suwanee and Lilburn Elementary were among the 10 percent of Title I schools across Georgia that showed the greatest improvement in student performance over the past three years on statewide tests.

Title I is the federal law that provides extra funds for schools based on student economic needs.

Another Gwinnett School, Phoenix High School in Lawrenceville, and its subgroup of black students, was on the list of Graduation Rate Alert Schools. The reason being that group of students'  achievement rate dropped three deviations from Georgia’s average score for black students.
