How Gwinnett County Voted in the 2012 Election

Republican-heavy Gwinnett County came out in large numbers

Results Updated 2 a.m., Wednesday

Gwinnett County voters provided few surprises on Election Day.

They came out in large numbers, voted mostly Republican and provided several lopsided outcomes.

Nearly 75 percent of the county's registered voters casted their ballots, more than five percentage points better than the 2008 turnout.

Gwinnettians voted for Gov. Mitt Romney for president, for incumbents in 11 races, including three Board of Education candidates, and in favor of the controversial Public Charter School Amendment (by a 63% to 37% margin), which drew similar margins elsewhere in the state.

U.S. Representatives Rob Woodall (R, District 7) and Hank Johnson (D, District 4) had sizable leads among their Gwinnett constituents as they claimed victories before midnight.

The only close race was in the State Representative Race in District 105, where Republican Joyce Chandler drew 10,556 votes compared to the 9,992 won by Democrat Renita Hamilton. District 105 encompasses an area from Lawrenceville to Grayson in Gwinnett County.

Precinct % updates would be helpful in determining how many precincts are remaining in various races. "0 of __ precincts" in races showing votes/percentages greater than zero is incorrect. :-)

Bob: We've got some updated figures posted now, here's the link http://peachtreecorners.patch.com/articles/gwinnett-county-election-results

Bob, State Sec of State figures say none of the precincts have fully reported, but 85 are partially reported. Not sure if that's due to all the early voting. We're updating as quickly as we can.

Great, thanks Scott & Judy!
Carol November 09, 2012 at 11:13 PM
I know for a fact that Charlotte Nash did not get 100% of the vote because I wrote in a name.
Beth November 09, 2012 at 11:39 PM
I wrote in another name too Carol.....the 100% is falling.
Scott Bernarde (Editor) November 09, 2012 at 11:58 PM
Hey Carol and Beth. Thanks for the comments. The 100% is the Secretary of State's number. Other votes, like provisional votes and write-ins, will eventually be factored in.
