Controversial Dacula Zoning Case on Planning Commission Agenda

Three other Dacula cases will also be heard at the Sept. 4 meeting.

After multiple delays, the  is scheduled to go before the Gwinnett County Planning Commission on Sept. 4.

The applicant of the property known as "" has requested a change in conditions (CIC2012-00008) for the 33-acre parcel of land located in the 3600 block of Braselton Highway to remove prohibitions against 24-hour sales, automotive parts stores, group and congregate personal care homes, full and self-service automotive car washes, drive-in and drive-through restaurants and emission inspection stations. However, according to Gwinnett County Planning Commission chairman Chuck Warbington, the emission inspection station item is now "off the table." 

The request has caused controversy in the Hamilton Mill area of Dacula due to the fact The Shire development was originally pitched to nearby homeowners as an upscale shopping center.
