Bridge at I-85 and Pleasant Hill Road Reopens Ahead of Schedule

The Diverging Diamond Interchange has been designed to improve traffic flow on the bridge.

The Gwinnett County Department of Transportation opened the new Diverging Diamond Interchange at the Pleasant Hill Road bridge over I-85 in the Duluth area Sunday (June 9) afternoon.

The opening was wells ahead of the scheduled opening of 5 a.m. Monday (June 10).

The bridge was reopened to traffic at 11 a.m. and fully open by noon with the DDI configuration.

The DDI design allows traffic to shift to the opposite side of the bridge, which will make left turns onto the interstate easier and improve the flow of traffic across the bridge.

Construction on other aspects of the project will continue until the fall.

Funding for this project is bring provided by the 2009 SPLOST sales tax program, Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District and State Road and Tollway Authority.
