Suwanee Police Substation Ceremony Is Monday

The new $1.99 million structure at I-85 includes a firing range.

The result of years of work and planning will be realized Monday (Sept. 10) when Suwanee Police and city officials take the wrapper off the new police substation in the Gateway area.

The police substation and training facility is located at Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and I-85. The 7,100 square foot structure is located on a 1.1-acre lot that formerly held a blighted building that once was a gas station.

The new facility does two things: It gives Suwanee Police a presence in the Gateway area. Also, it is a symbol of the city's desire to redevelop that entire area, which is a high priority with citizens.

"Citizens getting off I-85 and those traveling through the Gateway area will see that Suwanee has a police department and that our community is concerned about public safety and how it impacts our residents," Suwanee Police Chief Mike Jones said in a city news release.
