Sink Hole Opens Up on Scenic Highway in Snellville

Snellville Police advise residents to avoid the area near Scenic Highway and Henry Clower Boulevard.

According to an alert from Snellville Police, a sink hole has occurred on Scenic Highway, south of Henry Clower Boulevard in the north-bound lanes. It is reportedly 8 feet deep and covers the whole of the right turn lane. 

Snellville Police Lt. McKinney told Patch that a Walton EMC truck was driving on Scenic Highway and saw the road just open up in front of him. Fortunately he was able to avoid the hole and contact police. 

Traffic is not, as of 8 p.m., heavy.

Update 8:10 p.m.: All lanes are open now except for the right turn lane for Henry Clower Boulevard. A Georgia DOT worker told Patch the hole may have been caused by a rusted pipe breaking in half, but that has not been confirmed.
