Renters Beware! Craigslist Scam Hits Gwinnett

Gwinnett County police are warning the public of what they believe is a scam to fraudulently rent homes to families.

Gwinnett County police are investigating several incidents of homes that were fraudulently rented to unsuspecting homeowners.

According to WSB Radio, police believe Nevada-based Home Solutions Asset Company is renting local homes without having any right to do so.

The company states on its website that it specializes in helping renters make legal claim to residential properties. But, law enforcement believe there's nothing legal about it.

Investigators told WSB that they've found at least four homes, including one in Lilburn, that has been a part of the scam.

Police arrested Chrischon Ellis, of Lawrenceville, in connection with the fraud, and she is charged with theft by taking, according to jail records.

A word of advice for potential renters: Be sure to check the history of a company you are considering working with. Police departments, as well as the Better Business Bureau may be of service.
