Police: One Person Dead in Fiery Crash in Lilburn

The incident occurred around 3:40 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Highway 29 and Indian Trail Road. Drivers should expect delays southbound on Lawrenceville Highway.

One person is reported dead after a car crashed into a pole and became engulfed in flames in Lilburn.

According to Lilburn Police Chief Bruce Hedley, mutliple witnesses observed the driver of a small, red-colored SUV traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Lawrenceville Highway around 3:40 p.m. Tuesday (April 23).

The driver crashed into a large metal mast arm pole in front of the Waffle House at the intersection of Highway 29 and Indian Trail Road.

"After the crash, the car caught on fire, and the occupant was unable to exit the vehicle and perished in the fire," said Hedley.

Police have not released any details on the driver. No other occupants were in the vehicle and no one else has been reported injured.
