Parents Charged in 2-Year-Old’s Death in Norcross

Gwinnett County Police say Aiden Calvo had sustained extensive injuries and showed signs of neglect and abuse.

The death of a 2-year-old boy on Sunday has led to felony murder charges against his parents, Gwinnett County Police officials announced Friday.

According to a GCPD news release, authorities say 21-year-old Elizabeth Calvo and 25-year-old Adam Garber are now facing the felony murder charges following the death of their son, 2-year-old Aiden Calvo. The pair were initially charged with first-degree cruelty to children on Dec. 16, the day Aiden was admitted to Scottish Rite, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Pediatric Hospital.

Officers at the request of EMS personnel responded to a medical call at the Steeple Chase Apartments, 5856 Hunt Club Run in Norcross, about 7:15 a.m. Dec. 16. EMS personnel found Aiden, the subject of the medical call, suffering from serious injuries. His parents called 911 when he began having seizures, and EMS personnel contacted police after observing the nature of the boy’s injuries. Special Victims Unit detectives were contacted by uniform officers and took over the investigation.

Authorities say the parents could not provide satisfactory explanations for Aiden's injuries. SVU detectives interviewed medical personnel and found that Aiden had extensive injuries and signs of neglect and abuse. Officials then obtained first-degree cruelty to children charges against the pair as Aiden remained hospitalized at Scottish Rite.

Aiden died as a result of his injuries Sunday, Dec. 22.

Elizabeth Calvo and Garber have been in custody at the Gwinnett County Detention Center since their initial arrest on Dec. 16.
