Fire investigators confirm that the man who originally reported that an intruder had attacked him and set his Loganville home on fire has now been charged with arson, theft, making a false report and cruelty to animals.

A press release from GCF&RS report that making a false report and cruelty to animals.

GCF&RS public information officer Lt. Colin Rhoden said that “making a false report of a crime” was included since Smith reported a burglary allegedly occurred at the home which burned down to the ground just days later. In addition, on the day of the fire, Smith had reported a home invasion by an unknown intruder who set fire to the house after being confronted by Smith. The house subsequently burned to the ground, taking the lives of four family pets. Rhoden said fire investigators took Smith into custody following questioning at Fire Headquarters in Lawrenceville Thursday.
