Lightning Blamed for Gwinnett House Fire

A bolt of lightning ran down an electrical wire and caused the fire at a home in unincorporated Lawrenceville

Sunday's storms are to blame for a house fire in unincorporated Lawrenceville.

Lightning reportedly struck a home at 1913 Farmwood Drive just before 8pm. According to Gwinnett Fire's Captain Tommy Rutledge, the lightning ran inside the house through an electrical service line and sparked a fire in the basement. That fire then spread up the exterior wall to the second floor and attic.

A gas can was stored in the basement, and may have fueled the fire.
