Contrary to earlier reports that the man who drowned Sunday (June 23) at Lake Lanier was from Lawrenceville, he has been identified as an Atlanta resident.

Lindy James Murdock of Bass Street in Atlanta, 33, died Sunday afternoon, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Monday.

According to earlier media reports,  the man was on a float, but came off the float and went down. The incident happened in the Athens Park Road area of Forsyth County.

The death appears to be accidental. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Section is still investigating the drowning.
