Gwinnett Fire Battles Blazes in Suwanee, Lilburn and Lawrenceville

At least one of the blazes was started by lightning from storms in the area.

Severe weather was blamed for at least one fire in Gwinnett County Sunday, June 2.

Gwinnett Fire spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge reported that crews responded to fires in Suwanee, Lawrenceville and Lilburn.

  • 260 block of DeVille Circle, Suwanee

Rutledge said a lightning strike after 4 p.m. was blamed for a fire that resulted in a total loss of a home on DeVille Circle. A family of four escaped unharmed. The fire started in the attic. Read more about this blaze on Suwanee Patch.

  • 1900 block of Farmwood Drive, Lawrenceville

Rutledge said that while a storm was in the area when a basement fire broke out before 8 p.m., it wasn’t known if the blaze was weather-related. Eight people (four adults and four children) were displaced, but no injuries were reported. The fire spread to the second floor and the attic, causing extensive damage.

  • 80 block of Harmony Grove Road, Lilburn

Weather is not suspected as the cause of a fire that hit a house on Harmony Grove before 8 p.m. The single-story home sustained heavy damage in the kitchen area and smoke damage throughout. No one was injured, according to Rutledge. Read more about this fire on Lilburn-Mountain Park Patch.
