Declining Crime Rates in Unincorporated Snellville

Gwinnett County has seen a decline in every type of crime since 2007, according to Gwinnett County Police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith. 

Snellville's 30039 zipcode is in line with current trends. This is the south side of Snellville, often referred to as Centerville, and is close to the DeKalb County line.

Reports dating back to 2009 show the number of crimes in this area going down by the hundreds each year.

As of August 22, a total of 2,357 crimes were reported to Gwinnett County Police in unincorporated Snellville. 304 of those were traffic accidents with no injuries, 139 were accidents with injuries, 136 were theft by taking and 121 were hit and run incidents. All other crimes equaled less than 100, with most having less than ten incidences. 

In 2011, a total of 4,024 crimes took place. A total of 491 were for traffic accidents with no injuries, 232 for accidents with injuries, 241 for theft by taking and 156 hit and runs. 

Although the year is not over yet, the number of burglaries appear to be dwindling. So far, 96 forced residential burglaries have been reported. In 2011 that number was 189. In 2010, lower, at 170, while in 2009 there were 207. 

Entering autos has also reduced significantly. So far this year there have been 64 reported cases. In 2011, there were 174, in 2010 there were 181 and in 2009 there were 219. 

The same can be said for criminal trespass crimes. So far, there have been 89. In 2009 that number was 164. 

Here's an interesting one: broken windows. In 2009, windows were broken and reported as crimes 94 times. There were 9 in 2010, 5 in 2011 and none this year.
