Berkmar Mourns Death of Dakota Waters, 17

Jorge Quintana, of Gwinnett County Public Schools, confirmed that pedestrian killed in Wednesday accident was listed as a junior at the Lilburn high school.

Gwinnett County Public Schools confirmed that the teen killed Wednesday in an early morning accident on Lawrenceville Highway was a student at Berkmar High School.

Dakota Waters, 17, was listed as a junior at the Lilburn high school, according to Jorge Quintana, a spokesman for Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS.)

"The school was notified early yesterday morning that Dakota had passed away. The school district dispatched its crisis team, a group of counselors from schools from throughout the district, to assist classmates and faculty.

"The crisis team visited each of Dakota's classes throughout the day to speak with his classmates. They were also available the rest of the day yesterday, as well as today."

Sharon Mitchell-Golden, of Stone Mountain, hit Dakota as he was crossing Lawrenceville Highway Wednesday morning. Mitchell-Golden turned herself in to police Thursday morning. Among her charges is second-degree vehicular homicide.
