Covington Ga, My Southern History tour "Exploring"

By: Kenneth Stepp

Covington Ga. I have heard about it for years. Never visited. Today, I am exploring this beautiful historic city. Spending time on the sunny patio of a wonderful local eatery called, Amici. Italian food at it’s finest. Great service and a nice comfortable place to sit and write about the town it resides in.

Today, I met yet another Facebook friend. I get to do that when I travel. Darlene works at a domestic abuse center here. She gave me a tour, shared a meal, and engaged in wonderful conversation with me. I love meeting digital friends. Darlene was a lovely host. It’s nice to gey a native’s perspective on things. I always try. It doesn’t always work out though.

This town has been the host of so many great movies, Sweet Home Alabama, Vampire Diaries, Cannonball Run, to name just a few. Shows like The Heat of The night and many more. This really is the Hollywood of the south. I toured the visitor center. It is full, wall to wall with TV and movie memorabilia. Many that I myself enjoyed much. Walking past so much history as we walked the city square. A center park that is large and gorgeous. Mature trees, plenty of seating. Today and for most of the year, they have free outdoor concerts, free wifi, and many smiles. Restaurants everywhere. One of a kind too. The courthouse, built in 1884, was probably one of the biggest and most modern of it’s day.

When I posted I would be picking a town today, Darlene posted her town. I am pleased she did. If you want a fun place to hang out, eat, walk, or study. This is is.
