Alpharetta Ga, My Southern History Tour "Exploring"

By: Kenneth Stepp

If you love history, then you will love Alpharetta Georgia. They also have so many events. Great events. The Taste of Alpharetta, Classic British Car Show, festivals, etc. These folks roll out the red flag for everyone. Friendly and affluent. Not pretensious at all. Just classy.

Right now I am sitting on the sunny patio of my favorite eatery here. Smoke Jack’s BBQ. Some of the best food I have ever put in my mouth. Add unbelievably great service, and you get why I love this place so much.

I was just reminded that every Thursday night is Food Truck Night until October. Wow! What a place. They block off the city square and all the food trucks park in it. Music, venders, entertainment, and great food. It’s a weekly festival. This town is well ran and has it together.

I take a lot of ribbing for my lifestyle. Jokes mostly. “When are you going to grow up?” I hear that one too. Does life have to have a schedule?Does each day have to look like the one before? I hope not. I’ll never be rich living this way. I may never have the respect of some. But, their respect, opinion, and flow of life isn’t what motivates this explorer. I love adventure. Even learning about the history of small towns, meeting new people, and seeing things I’ve not seen before. These flip my switch.

Social norms are so passe. I just don’t care for them. As a single guy looking for my forever. I want the way I live to repulse the girls that me being like this would make me a bad fit. And if I were with one of them. Well. I just couldn’t be. I work on relationships. This means I would have never met Toni, the theater director in Elberton, or David, my server in Alpharetta, even Emily in Winder. People are my mosaic. I enjoy almost all of them.I value them so much.

Meeting different cultures, lifestyles, and races. This is true “Rainbow-isms”. Hey. It wouldn’t be an article from me if I didn’t add a word I invented. I sit in the freest country on the planet. Yet there are still people being discriminated against. Most, in the name of religion. Since this is an upbeat article about an awesome little town. I will climb down from my soapbox.. Suffice to say, I am a constitutionalist. And if ONE American doesn’t have the exact same rights as myself (white, straight, etc). Then no one will one day. I am still amazed they don’t get that.

Alpharetta has a rich history. Yet I am finding it so hard to focus on the history here, when I see so much progress and growth. They have elected some of the best leaders. Kind of like Gwinnett County has. Such strong leadership that even the mistakes work out for good.

I the mean time, I sit on this sunny patio behind this wonderful little eatery, thinking about tomorrow. Today is Wednesday. Friday i will explore Columbus Georgia. My favorite Georgia town. My friend and state senator, Josh, will meet me at Country’s BBQ and share a feast while we catch up. That leaves tomorrow right where I want it. OPEN and free to do whatever I  I want with. Today is awesome, tomorrow will be awesome, Friday is guaranteed awesome. So, what will the weekend bring. More awesome of course. My life rocks. Don’t be a hater.
