1818Blog: And Hello

John Dunn starts the 1818Blog, and hello!

“Start a blog,” it says when I pull up my Gwinnett Patch.

“Start a blog? What do I put in this blog?”

The answer that comes back is, “You’re a former politician.  You’ll think of something.”

Okay.  Fine.  Here goes:

My name is John and I’m a recovering politician.  It has been nearly eight years since I since I voted in an official capacity.

As it has been eight years since I left office and since most people do not pay attention to local government, perhaps I should mention a little about myself.  I did serve on the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners from 2001-2004.  I spent the better part of the 1990s working within the Gwinnett Republican Party and the Gwinnett Young Republicans as an officer and an organizer.  My political
perspective is conservative, both fiscal and social.

I am a veteran, a Boy Scout leader, a sometimes-coach of youth league baseball, and a self-published author of the e-book House of War.  Perhaps you were one of the dozen or so people who downloaded a copy…but probably not.

The purpose of this blog is to discuss things political and not political, local and national.  It’s that simple.  The Patch does not strike me as a partisan site, but its readers do appear to have their viewpoints.  That is great.  I look forward to the exchange of ideas.
