Buford Man Makes Elite 'Donkey Kong' Killscreener List

Mick Winzeler hoping to improve his top score during upcoming "Kong Off" in Denver, Colo.

A Buford man hopes to beat his top Donkey Kong score of 874,000 in the upcoming "Kong Off 3" to be held Nov. 15-17 in Denver, Colo. The event will feature at least 20 Donkey Kong (DK) machines and over $4,500 in cash for the winners.

According to the Gwinnett Daily Post, Mick Winzeler, a teacher at Grayson High School, is among a small number of Donkey Kong players who have ever reached Level 22 in the game, also known as the "killscreen" level.

The "Official Unofficial List of DK Killscreeners" on ClassicArcadeGaming.com shows Winzeler in the 37th spot on the killscreener list.

"I've always had video games in my blood," Winzeler told the Gwinnett Daily Post. "I've always enjoyed them from an early age."
