MATH IS MY FRIEND, INC. RECEIVES GRANT FROM TECHFOUNDATION

Johns Creek, GA – Math Is My Friend, Inc is pleased to announce that we have received a $10,000 grant from TechFoundation Inc. to support “It’s Elementary” 2013-2014 project.

Math Is My Friend has kicked off the 3rd year of offering a unique math tutoring program which is designed to help students improve their math grades, improve their performance on the math portion of the CRCT, increase their technological capabilities and increase their overall appreciation of math and how it relates to the real world.  Math Is My Friend Co-Founder, Vanessa Calhoun, says, “Today, math skills are critically needed to compete in our global economy and the development of these skills, at an early age, is crucial to building the confidence needed for children to excel.”    Many children who join the Math Is My Friend program struggle in math and are behind academically one-two grade levels.  Within nine months most students are performing at or above grade level.  Others after completing the program are moved into accelerated classes.  Specialized tutoring is offered on Saturday mornings and at select after school programs.

The TechFoundation grant enabled Math is My Friend to supply netbooks to its students.  These netbooks, which the students keep upon completion of the program, enable them to do required on-line training during the week.  During the course of the school year, students will work in small group sessions with Math Trainers and have access to Trainers during the after school program or from home on the weekends via phone. To help parents better understand the program provided to their children, parent workshops will be given to the parents to enable them to support their child’s math skills development. Math Is My Friend Co-Founder, Patricia Chambers, states, "We believe that our unique combination of Math Trainers that care, access to tools for success, measurable goals, family inclusion and real world connections is what keeps the students engaged, successful, and wanting to come back."   Tricia Chambers concludes with “the students really enjoy learning math in a fun but challenging way and the results from the 2012-2013 school year were excellent.  We look forward to an even better 2013-2014 year, as final results roll in.  Thanks to the support of TechFoundation, Inc, and their understanding of the importance of Math Is My Friend in the community, were able to provide our students with netbooks, providing the access they need to thrive in this technology based society.
