Kyle Maynard Asks Suwanee to OK Fitness Center Expansion

The fitness entrepreneur and motivational speaker wants to grow elsewhere in Suwanee.

A year ago at this time, Suwanee resident Kyle Maynard was climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa. Now, he's looking for a new horizon at home in Suwanee.

Maynard, a congenital quadriplegic, has applied to city officials for a Special Use Permit that would allow him to operate a larger fitness facility.

Maynard's CrossFit operation wants to operate in an 11,200-square-foot facility at Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and Shawnee North Drive, according to documents submitted to city officials. City staff has recommended approval with conditions to City Council members, who will vote on the matter at a future meeting.

"In our current location members are faced with cramped workout conditions and being extra cautious while they train to not infringe on the personal space of other members," Maynard said in a letter to city officials. The letter added that the new location also would offer more parking capability.
