Gwinnett Place Marriott to Become a Sonesta Hotel

The familiar Atlanta Gwinnett Place Marriott on Pleasant Hill Road near Interstate 85 in Duluth soon will have a new sign. Sonesta International Hotels Corp. plans to reflag the hotel located near Gwinnett Place Mall as the Sonesta Gwinnett Place. The transition to Sonesta management is expected to take place in mid-May, according to a company spokesperson.

Sonesta announced the impending change April 25. The actual transition date probably will be May 17, Lorie Juliano, Sonesta’s corporate director of communication, said.

The Gwinnett Place Marriott is the largest hotel in Gwinnett County. The full-service 17-story hotel in unincorporated Duluth has 426 guest rooms, including 15 suites and three concierge floors. It has 18 function rooms offering 16,000 square feet of meeting and event space. The 8,000-square-foot Georgia Ballroom can accommodate up to 1,000 guests.

The Atlanta Marriott Gwinnett Place was being managed by Crestline Hotels & Resorts. Key management staff and longtime employees are expected to stay on as Sonesta employees.

The Sonesta Gwinnett Place will be Sonesta’s second property in the area. Sonesta also operates the Sonesta ES (Extended Stay) Suites in Atlanta.
