English housewives Lotty Wilton and Rose Arnott travel to Italy to escape unhappy marriages. They enlist Lady Caroline and Mrs. Graves to share expenses. “These four ladies couldn't be more different, yet so very similar,” Ingbritsen said.

The women stay at a private villa on the Italian seaside belonging to Antony Wilding overseen by his vivacious housekeeper Costanza. There the ladies get to know each other and find peace. Then husbands, Mellersh Wilton and Frederick Arnott, arrive to see just what their wives have been up to on their trip.
