Chatham County Line will open the Memorial Day concert weekend at the Red Clay Theatre in Duluth Thursday evening. An American bluegrass musical group formed in Raleigh, NC, in 1999 from members of the band Stillhouse, Chatham County Line has released five albums. Saturday's Arts in the Park festival in Suwanee could be last chance for some people to view the piece of the Berlin Wall that's on display in front of City Hall. Unless you buy it at auction on May 25, also in Suwanee. According to a news release, the 8,000-pound artifact of the Berlin Wall, which came down in 1989, will be sold at an auction May 25, 4:30 p.m., in Suwanee. The auction will take place on the amphitheater stage at Town Center. The 12-foot slab is one of the assets seized by a federal receiver of Atlanta investment advisory firm Lighthouse Financial Partners. Gwinnett County Public Schools salutes fine arts programs in its latest issue of Communique.
As the school year comes to a close, Gwinnett County Public Schools officials are taking the time to commend the district's arts programs and the students who bring them to life. More than 147,000 Gwinnett County students were enrolled in fine arts classes this year, officials said in the latest issue of Communique, an online magazine for the district's school community. That's more than 88 percent of the district's student enrollment. Suwanee will get a double dose of arts Saturday. The Arts in the Park festival returns to Town Center Park for its 2013 run. And as in past years, that will coincide with the official rollout of the SculpTour exhibits. As noted in a city news release, "Art Splash" is the theme for the 2013 festival, which is organized by the North Gwinnett Arts Association (NGAA) and co-sponsored by the city. The festival will run 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Some 60 artists will exhibit, sell, and demonstrate their art; several performance artists will entertain; and attendees will be invited to create their own art pieces through a chalk art competition and community art program. For Peachtree Corners former resident, Chandler Massey, life keeps getting sweeter by the day. The former drama student at Norcross High has made it to the big league. He stars in the long-running daytime drama, "Days of Our Lives," and has been nominated for an Emmy for the third time. The awards take place on June 18. Massey, whose parents Lewis and Amy Massey live in Peachtree Corners, won his first Daytime Emmy in 2012. This year is the third time he's been nominated. "It feels great," said 22-year-old Massey in a report published by PEOPLE. "It's a huge honor and I'd love to have another piece of hardware but we'll see what happens in June." Visitors gather on the Duluth Town Green to admire art and celebrate Mother's Day.
Art lovers and families celebrating Mother’s Day flocked to Duluth for the Barefoot in the Park Fine Arts Festival this past weekend. The art admirers and shoppers included many mother-daughter-grandchildren groupings. The weather was beautiful for the two-day festival May 11 and 12 featuring performances on two stages and artists displaying their creations under tents on the Duluth Town Green. Their artwork included jewelry, paintings, photography, wood art, sculpture, fiber art, and more. Fifty-plus juried artists participated in the festival. Children explored their artistic inclinations with colored sand and other media in the Art Park tent. Artists demonstated their talents under the Learning Village tent. For adults, there were wine …
