Second Wells Fargo Robbery Suspect Turns Himself In

Thomas Birdsong of Decatur, Ga. turned himself in following media coverage of last month's armed robbery at a Lawrenceville bank.

Gwinnett County Police now have two of the three suspects who they say were involved in the armed robbery of a Wells Fargo on Lawrenceville Highway in December in custody.

GCPD spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith says Thomas Edward Birdsong, 41, of Decatur turned himself in on Thursday, Jan. 3. That was the day GCPD released video and photos of the robbery and suspects to the media. Smith says Birdsong saw that coverage and turned himself in.

Birdsong allegedly acted as a lookout during the robbery while Jamar Terrell of Lawrenceville and Marcus Rutledge went inside to rob the bank according to Smith.

“We believe the original plan was for Terrell and Rutledge to abandon the car in the grocery store parking lot and drive off with Birdsong,” Smith previously told Patch. “They looked for him after coming out of the bank, didn’t see him and drove off in Terrell’s car. Terrell lived nearby and we believe the two were headed to his home.”
