Rep. Broun: Second Amendment ‘Protects All the Rest of Our Liberty’

Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA-10) visited Dacula City Hall Tuesday evening for a town hall meeting attended by approximately 65 people. The meeting, held in a question and answer format, covered a wide range of topics, chief among them the Second Amendment.
“The Second Amendment is what protects all the rest of our liberty. It is critical that we maintain private ownership of firearms,” Broun said.

Identifying himself as an original intent constitutionalist, Broun said it was hunting rights and gun owners’ rights that launched his political activism.
“It got me to study the Constitution and what our founding fathers intended for not only the Second Amendment, but for the whole of the Constitution of the United States,” he said.
Broun, chairman of Congress’ Second Amendment Task Force, described the issue as being “all about liberty.”
“The reason behind the Second Amendment and the original intent was to protect our liberty -- for us to be able to protect our lives and our property, but also to protect ourselves from being overrun by our own government,” Broun said.
