Loganville Mother and Son Face Drug, Weapons Charges

A Loganville mother and son were arrested Monday and charged with several drug related crimes as well as for being in possession of weapons during a crime.

Cindy Marie Smith and her son, William Shane Smith, were arrested Monday at their home in Gwinnett Estates Mobile Home Park after a Gwinnett County police officer on a routine patrol allegedly detected the smell of raw marijuana.

According to the incident report, the Gwinnett County police officer approached the trailer from where the smell of raw marijuana was emanating and asked Cindy Marie Smith if there was raw marijuana in the trailer. She reportedly denied it and tried to close the door. The officer was eventually able to persuade her to let him in and consent to a search.

During the search, a large ziplock bag allegedly containing 10 smaller bags containing a green leafy substance thought to be marijuana were located. A gun also was found. It reportedly turned out to be stolen out of Las Vegas, Nev. Smith claimed that her son was not involved in the distribution of the marijuana and that she was selling it because she was unable to earn enough money any other way.
