Various jewelry valuing up to $1,600 was also taken in the Snellville heist.
Almost $3,400 in coins and jewelry were taken in a Snellville home burglary last week.
According to a Snellville Police report, two men, 89 and 54, returned to their home on the 1800 block of Cates Court around 10:40 p.m. Feb. 8 to find that their home had been broken into. They discovered a number of high value items missing, including a Krugerrand, a 22-karat South African coin made of 1 oz. of pure gold.
The police report lists its value at $1,726.
That wasn't the only big thing the culprit got away with, though. Various earrings, necklaces, pendants and a bracelet valuing $1,600 were taken.
Additionally, the victims reported miscellaneous change and state quarters totaling $60 stolen, too. The pair told police that they had a new lock installed on the backdoor, and they may have forgotten to lock it.
