From a Gwinnett County press release
(January 17, 2013) The Gwinnett County Animal Shelter needs volunteers! Gwinnett County Animal Welfare and Enforcement Services has recently undertaken several new initiatives and hosted several events designed to maximize the number of adoptions from the shelter. The ultimate goal is to reduce euthanasia and find every adoptable pet a home. Volunteers are an essential part of this goal, and we can’t do it without them!
The shelter has several events and activities on the horizon, in addition to daily needs. We need volunteers in all of the following areas:
- Walking dogs
- Handling cats and kittens
- Cleaning and sanitizing
- Assisting citizens bonding with animals they wish to adopt
- Special events such as off-site adoptions, fund raisers, etc.
- Clerical duties
- Landscaping
Volunteers for the shelter must be 18 years of age, must pass a background check, and must be familiar and comfortable with animals.
The shelter hours of operation are Tuesday – Saturday 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM and Sunday 12:00 noon – 4:00 PM, closed Monday. Special event times and locations will vary.
